Cross-Country Skiing
All portions of the county forest are open and available for cross-country skiing, unless officially signed or posted to the contrary.
Rock Dam cross-country ski trail is located adjacent to Rock Dam County Park and is 2 miles in length. Maintenance of this trail is limited to brushing and grading, the trail is not groomed in the winter months.
Bruce Mound cross-country ski trail is located adjacent to Bruce Mound Winter Sports Area. The trail is periodically maintained and groomed as time allows.
Clark County's premier cross-country ski trail system is Levis Mound. The Levis/Trow Mound Recreational Area consists of 15 miles of expertly groomed trails for skating and classic technique along with an additional 19 miles of ungroomed backcountry routes. The more advanced trails are located to the northwest on Trow Mound, while the easy and intermediate trails lie near the base of the mounds. Backcountry skiers can climb the narrow and difficult single track to the tops of the mounds for a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. Ski trails are generally open the first part of December thru the end of March of each year, depending on snow depth. Trails are closed during the Wisconsin Gun Deer Season.
Facilities include a large parking lot, warming shelter, running water and heated bathrooms.
Trails are maintained and groomed by club volunteer's Neillsville Area Single Track Inhabitants, or N.A.S.T.I. Trails are groomed with up to date grooming equipment, trails are set with diagonal tracks and a skating lane averaging 12 feet wide. The most recent grooming update can be found at the clubs website www.levismound.com
When cross-country skiing at Levis/Trow Mound Recreational Area a trail pass must be purchased. Daily and season trail passes are available at the Levis/Trow Mound Recreational Area trailheads and the Clark County Forestry & Parks Office (715) 743 - 5140.
