Mission Statement: To develop and promulgate emergency management plans consistent with State and Federal plans, direct the program and perform any other duties related to Emergency Management.

The four different areas of dealing with natural or man made disasters are:

MITIGATION - some form of prevention, ie: being knowledgeable about extremely hazardous substances and handling them appropriately or being aware of flooding hazards and moving people and equipment to higher ground when flooding is predicted.

PREPAREDNESS - just what it says - preparation for some kind of emergency or unplanned event. This includes all types of training.

RESPONSE - again, just what it says - coordinating a response to an emergency situation.

RECOVERY - also just what it says - coordinating the recovery from an emergency or tragic event.

My office is also responsible for Public Education and Training for the county. This includes specialized training for the emergency services and the general public. Just this month my office sponsored a Skywarn Training for Tornado and Severe Weather notification to the National Weather Service.
