Q. How do I obtain a driver's license?
The Wisconsin Dept of Transportation Drivers License Examiners Office(s) issues driver's license. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.dot.state.wi.us

Q. Where can I register my vehicle?
The Clark County Sheriff's Department provides the proper forms and assistance needed to register your vehicle. The assistance is free of charge unless a temporary license plate is issued. If a temporary license plate is issued, a $5.00 counter fee is required. This service is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Q. Who do I call for a copy of my birth certificate?
Contact the Register of Deeds office in the county of your birth or the county that your parents resided in when you were born.

Q. What is the cost to record a real estate document?
The cost is $11 for the first page and $2 for each additional page.

Q. How do I obtain a hunting or fishing license in Wisconsin?
The Clark County Clerk’s office no longer issues hunting and fishing licenses. Licenses can be obtained at any of the business listed here

Q. How do I obtain an address for a new home or lot?
Fill out the "Application for New Address", and return to the Emergency Management Office.

Q. When will I receive my tax bill?
The local treasurer mails tax bills in December of each year. They will usually include a letter regarding any special collection times and places, as well as any other information the municipality wishes to send.

Q. When are tax payments due?
All taxes on real estate and improvements on leased land shall be paid in one of the following ways:

  1. In full on or before January 31.
  2. In 2 equal installments (if over $100.00) with the first installment payable on or before January 31 and the 2nd installment payable on or before July 31.
  3. If the total real property tax levied is less than $100.00 it shall be paid in full on or before January 31.
Special assessments, special charges and other taxes that are placed in the tax roll shall be paid in full on or before January 31.

Personal property taxes (except those on improvements on leased land) shall be paid in full on or before January 31.

Q. Where do I make my tax payment?
Real estate tax payments must be made to the local town, village or city treasurer on or before January 31 (name and address can be found in top left corner of bill) and to the county treasurer after January 31. Personal property tax is always paid to the local treasurer.

Q. What is the penalty for late tax payment?
Delinquent first installment - If the first installment of taxes is not paid on or before January 31, the entire amount of the taxes remaining unpaid is delinquent as of February 1 and will be charged interest of 1% and penalty of .5% per month (or fraction thereof) until paid in full.

Delinquent second installment - If the 2nd installment of taxes is not paid on or before July 31, the entire amount of the taxes remaining unpaid is delinquent as of August 1 and interest and penalty will be charged from the preceding February 1st at the rate of 1.5% per month or fraction thereof.

Q. Is there a charge for reviewing property tax information online and can other people view my public records?
Clark County has property taxes online in the Clark County Treasurer's office in the courthouse. A public access terminal is available at no charge and all tax records are public information and therefore open for public viewing. Property assessment information is available online through the GIS web site. A Property Management Portal is available which provides tax information to users for a fee.

Q. Do I need a building permits and how do I obtain one?
All municipalities are required to issue building permits for new single and double-family homes. Contact your local municipal official for information on how to obtain a building permit. A sanitary permit is required before the municipality may issue a building permit. A County building permit may also be required in shore land, floodplain and forestry areas. Contact the Planning and Zoning Department for specific information.

Q. How do I find out if a specific parcel of land is located in a floodplain or wetland?
The Clark County Planning and Zoning Department maintain official copies of these maps. The "GIS online" site also contains much of Clark County's digital land information.

Q. Is a survey required before land is split into smaller lots?
A survey is not required to create smaller lots of any size until three or more lots of five acres or less are created within a five year period. At this time a subdivision plat would be required.

Q. Who maintains and clears snow from my road or street?

  1. Town Roads - The Township in which you live, would clear and maintain the road that you live on, unless you live on a Town Line Road, in which case, the Township receiving the State Road Aid, for that particular portion of road, would clear snow and provide maintenance.
  2. City/Village Streets - The City/Village in which you live would clear snow and maintain the street you live on unless that street happens to be a State Trunk Highway, US Highway, Connecting State Trunk Highway or County Trunk Highway.
  3. County Trunk Highways - The Clark County Highway Department clears snow and maintains all of the County Trunk Highways in Clark County. Per state statutes, Cities/Villages clear snow and maintain area outside of the driving lanes in their respective Cities/Villages.
  4. State Trunk Highways, Connecting State Trunk Highways and US Highways - The Clark County Highway Department clears snow from and maintains all State Trunk Highways and US Highways, in Clark County, with the exception of the Connecting State Trunk Highways in the City of Neillsville. The WI Department of Transportation pays the City of Neillsville, to clear snow and to maintain all of the State Trunk Highways and US Highway within their city limits. Per state statutes, Cities/Villages clear snow and maintain areas outside of the driving lanes in their respective Cities/Villages.

  1.
