Land Conservation
Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Land Conservation Department to promote and assist in wise land use decisions that preserve, protect, and enhance the natural resources of Clark County.

The Land Conservation Department operates under the guidance of the Land Conservation Committee. The committee consists of five members and is made up of two persons also serving on the county's Agriculture and Extension Committee, the chairman of the county Farm Service Agency Committee and one citizen-at-large member. The Land Conservation Committee is empowered by Chapter 92 of the Wisconsin Statutes to:
  • Enable the regulation of harmful land use and land management practices by county ordinance
  • Encourage coordinated soil and water conservation planning and program implementation
  • Establish goals and standards for conservation of soil and water resources
  • Provide for cost-sharing, technical assistance, and educational programs to conserve soil and water resources

Staff and Responsibilities
The Land Conservation Department is made up of four full-time and one part-time employee. The department consists of the county conservationist, an engineering technician, a conservation planner, and an administrative secretary. The department is responsible for providing technical, planning, and financial assistance to landowners of Clark County in regards to soil and water conservation practices.

The department implements state and local conservation programs such as the Farmland Preservation Program, the DNR Priority Watershed Program, the Land and Water Resource Management Program, the Animal Damage and Claims Program, and the Animal Waste Management Ordinance. It is the responsibility of the Land Conservation Department and Committee to ensure that the county's natural resources are conserved.
